New Publication: Poison Pill, and other updates

Wow, it’s been a while since my last blog post, huh? Sorry about that. I have been updating the home page every couple months or so, but I haven’t had anything to post about, and most of my energies have been devoted to cooking up a new batch of short stories.

Well good news is I’ve got a lot of posts coming your way over the next few months, three of which are included in my new zine, Poison Pill! Poison Pill is a collection of three pieces on machine writing—one short story, a series of thought experiments, and an essay. You can read them all now if you order a copy of the zine from my Etsy page, or you can patiently wait for me to publish them online and read them for free. I’ll post the first one in November, and the next two sometime between then and February.

You can also pick up a copy at Philly Zinefest! This year it’s December 12th, 11am-5pm, at Mitten Hall, and I will once again be tabling. I’ll have everything I had last year, plus a few new pieces:

  • Poison Pill, as mentioned
  • Elliot Killed a Monster Last Night, a novella about a high school student who killed a real, actual, spooky scary monster last night, and just has to go to school today.
  • How to Write a Sex Scene, a short story about two writers, one of whom is terribly infatuated with the other, talking about how to write a sex scene.
  • Some new stickers
  • A new 1-sheet of an old story

Aside from Poison Pill, those aren’t available to order online yet, but rest assured they will be after the zinefest.

Other Updates

I am currently working on a comic which I will hopefully have completed by the end of this year! I’ve just finished inking the 38th and final page, though I still have to do all the shading. Here’s a sneak peak of the second to last page. I will most likely publish it sometime in 2027.

I’m reading through every issue of Clarkesworld Magazine this year. I’ll do a round-up post with all my favorite stories sometime next year, but in the meantime I’ve been posting them to the “Reading” section on my homepage. You can’t see them right now, though, because currently my reading section is dedicated to my Spooktober reads!

Every year around October I like to read horror/spooky books. You can read my previous spooktober posts here. This year I’m planning to read:

  • The Unmothers by Leslie J. Anderson
  • Rekt by Alex Gonzalez
  • The Gold-Bug and other tales by Edgar Allan Poe
  • La Ruta del hielo y la sal de Jose Luis Zárate

I’ll be updating them with little mini reviews on my homepage as I read them, and once I’ve read them all I’ll have a full post reviewing them.

Lastly, I recently played Money For Girls: Amortized, the latest and greatest project from Xrafstar (formerly Porpentine), and loved it. It’s a visual novel about a girl detective trying to scrounge up enough money to save her mother from debtor’s prison, while also being bullied by/falling in love with/stalking her classmate Agnel [sic]. It’s got horror, it’s got guts, it’s got a mostly moody, sometimes explosive soundtrack and delicious art. Xrafstar’s writing is evocative and sharp. A single playthrough is fairly short, like 2 hours or so, but there’s lots you’ll miss with just one playthrough. I’ve gone back and replayed it three times, and am ready for a fourth now that they’ve released an update. Here’s some fanart I did of one of my favorite moments :-).

Okay, next post will be a Spooktober review probably around the end of October/start of November, and then the short story “Poison Pill” in November! See you then!
